Warley Green Trail

Jointly Funded by Northern Gas Networks, The Warley Trust, the Community Development Fund  and Warley Community Association.  Completed in 2012

One of the things many people had talked about was to have somewhere to wander – a quiet path away from busy roads but close to the centre of the village.  Somewhere for children to learn about nature & heritage in safety.  As a result the Community Association launched The Green Trail project in 2011

The first stage of the project was to plant fruit trees and bushes alongside the playing fields and next to the existing community compost bins and so began a Green Trail which would eventually link the village school, cricket ground, allotments and the graveyard

With an initial grant of £2,000 from Northern Gas Networks, work continued with the clearance of neglected areas in the graveyard  and included crown lifting some mature trees and planting herbaceous borders and small shrubs to encourage a greater diversity of wildlife

This work was followed by the creation of areas for children to learn about the history of the village and wildlife living in the area.  Finally a seating area and panorama board highlighting points of interest up and down the Calder & Ryburn Valleys were constructed and supported by additional funding from Calderdale’s Community Development Fund, the Warley Trust and the Community Association itself

The Green Trail is a public space now enjoyed by residents and visitors alike.  Click on Wooodland_Wildlife to dsicover some of the creatures you could discover on our Trail.  The Association also runs education programmes for schools and young people’s groups based around the heritage, nature and geography associated with the Trail.  For further information, just Contact Us
