Next Local History Talk

Our next local history talk will be on Monday 23rd February at 7.30pm in the Maypole Inn, Warley.  Entry is just £2.

The talk is entitled:- ‘Enclosing the Moors: shaping the Calder Valley landscape through
parliamentary enclosure’  and the presenter is Sheila Graham, a local historian from Colden near Heptonstall.

“Behind the dry stone walls that checker our local hillsides lies a surprising story – and
some very local rivalries. Acts of Parliament regulated the division and fencing of the
commons and waste moorlands of the Calder Valley in the 19th century, and our
landscape changes forever”.
